Chalkboards. Markers. And why you need Chakola in your life.

As you’re all very much aware of by now, I have 7 children. A few are very artistically inclined and one is a crafting wizard, or nightmare, I can’t decide based purely on the trail of “craftiness” that he leaves all over our house. Point is, we like to get creative around here and draw or write on everything. Papers, tables, walls, dishes .. everything seems to be fair game for graffiti so when I was asked to review some fancy new Chalkola Chalk Markers, I was all over that.

As a Mama, the main attraction to me was that they would clean up easily with water. Hello??? Do you have any idea how messy chalkboards get, especially when they’re being drawn on and wiped off many times a day? Well, it’s a lot and I’ve got the chalk stained baseboards and socks to prove it.

We were given the Chakola Chalk & Metallic Marker Set to review and let me tell you, THEY ARE AWESOME.

The colours are super bright, and once you get them flowing, they write smoothly and have great coverage. Not like normal chalk where you have to push down really hard and/or go back and forth, over and over to get a solid colour.

We used them on chalkboards, marking glasses with names at a birthday party, decorating coffee mugs, writing on bedroom windows and on wooden signs. They worked well in all applications but I loved how they looked on glass. They would be awesome to use in decorating for weddings on glasses or place card settings. Or teachers, on whiteboards … these would be amazing.

I’m happy to report that they all wiped off with just water and didn’t leave any residue. The only colour that required a little bit of elbow grease was the white, and that was after sitting for 2 weeks. They really are like drawing with felt tipped markers and that is how they look on your projects.

We did try them on some of our “painted” on chalkboard walls, and while the pens wrote beautifully, they were very hard to clean off. Because of that, I’d recommend that you only use these pens on non-porous surfaces, such as smooth finishes, like glass, mirrors, whiteboards and chalkboards that weren’t “painted on”. They did easily wipe off my front door (don’t ask), the craft table, my kitchen counters and my fridge though, so that’s pretty great in my books.

Our Family of Many give these 18 thumbs up and we recommend Chalkola Chalk Markers with no hesitation at all. The Wieners approve!
